Research Position in Communications Engineering

The Communications Section at Cinvestav is looking for candidates to fill a Researcher position in Communications Engineering.

Responsabilities of the role

The selected candidate will undertake basic or applied research and supervise master's and doctoral theses. They will be expected to contribute to the teaching of graduate courses; however, our teaching load is relatively low compared to Mexican standards, allowing for a focus on research. They will be expected to contribute to curriculum design and departmental planning, collaborate on academic and administrative activities, and secure external funding for their research or technological development.

Requirements

Must have a doctorate in communications engineering or related disciplines and a master's degree in communications engineering, computer science, or related disciplines. Must have scientific production in JCR-Web of Science journals in the field of communications. Postdoctoral or work experience of at least three years in research or technological development activities on topics directly related to telecommunications is desirable. Applicants with questions about their eligibility are encouraged to contact the party responsible for clarification before submitting their application.

Desirable Attributes

Suitable candidates for this position are those with a commitment to service, strong management and leadership skills, a capacity for teamwork and multidisciplinary collaboration, as well as an aptitude for and interest in graduate-level research and teaching. Oral and written communication skills and fluency in English are also important. As a guide, we are seeking academic qualifications or professional experience in, but not limited to, the following areas: wireless and mobile communications, computer networks, artificial intelligence applied to communications, high-frequency and microwave electronics, and Internet technologies.

Conditions of Appointment

Selected candidates will initially be granted a one-year appointment. At the end of this phase, the appointment will be renewed, subject to satisfactory completion of the one-year probationary period. The nominal salary and benefits will be those corresponding to the assigned category based on the current salary scales of CINVESTAV.

How to Apply

Interested applicants should submit the required documentation in Spanish or English in a single PDF document by email. Gather the following: a letter of application summarizing your interests, experience, and research background; a copy of your master's and doctoral degrees; a comprehensive CV, including an academic profile on Web of Science or Google Scholar; a description of your research; a three-year work plan indicating the graduate courses you could teach in the communications specialty and the desirable requirements for your research. In addition, you must request three letters of recommendation, which should be sent directly to the contact person by the recommender.

Dates and Process

The deadline for applications is July 31, 2025; late applications may also be considered, depending on availability. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an in-person or virtual interview. Candidates selected for the position must provide original certificates of their master's and doctoral degrees.
